Dazzling hair, a beautiful mane, a glorious coat – however you phrase it, some dog breeds are blessed with beauty, including their luscious locks! Even more so, when their coat is a fluffy, thick, pristine color of white, it’s as if they’ve stepped off a cloud.
Some say a white coat adds to a dog’s elegant look, giving a crisp appearance and standing out from most backgrounds.
Let’s celebrate these “marshmallow dogs” by looking at some of our favorite dog breeds with stunning white, fluffy coats!
Bichon Frisé
Is this a stuffed animal or a dog?! Because of this breed’s powder-puff coat, you may have to take a second glance!
A Bichon Frisé has a curly outer coat and a soft undercoat, while its colors vary from white, buff, cream, apricot, and gray. Some say they resemble a cotton ball, which we say is perfectly fine!
If this breed looks familiar, it may be because it was featured in the movie Shrek! A Bichon Frisé was given to Fiona by her Fairy Godmother to cheer her up. Aww! A Bichon’s adorable look and peppy personality make for a “perfect pet” that’s likely to be the star of the show.
Samoyed
Wow. One look at this cuddly canine and you might say the Samoyed is one of the most beautiful dog breeds there is because of its all-white, regal coat. It’s a medium-to-large dog that originated in Siberia and was bred to work in cold climates, which is why their coats are meant to protect them from harsh winter conditions.
Oh, and if you feel like Samoyeds look like they’re constantly smiling, there might be a reason for that!
The “upward curling lips” feature prevents drool from freezing into icicles in cold weather. Interesting, right?! Hey, a white fluffy dog that looks like it’s always happy? We’ll take it!
American Eskimo
Sing it with us, “Do you wanna build a snowman?” Why the Frozen reference? Well, fun fact, American Eskimos are a pure-white breed with coal-black eyes and noses, much like a snowman!
The breed comes in three sizes – standard, miniature, and toy, standing as tall as 19 inches with their chest, neck, and part of their shoulders covered with a lion-like mane.
And their coats? White, (or white with biscuit cream) dense, and sparkling! They’re also the most trainable of breeds, known for being kid-friendly and eager to please! One con to their beautiful mane? They shed like crazy, so petting one will have you covered in white fur!
Great Pyrenees
Talk about a white gentle giant! The Great Pyrenees is on the larger side of white fluffy dog breeds, weighing 100 pounds or more with a thick, double coat of white fur.
What that also means is that they shed… a lot! As a year-round shedder, they’ll need to be brushed several times a week so their fur doesn’t end up on you, your floors, or your furniture.
Only an occasional bath is needed, as their double coat naturally resists dirt, so a dip in the tub now and then will keep their coat white and bright!
Bolognese
Talk about a fun word to say! No, we’re not talking about the Italian sauce! It’s the Bolognese dog, a small companion breed originating in Italy. A Bolognese’s white coat is known to be wavy, soft, fluffy, and cotton-like in texture, while ruffled-looking and long. Bolognese dogs are considered low-shedding.
They need to be brushed every two to three days to prevent matting (or daily if the coat is kept long) and should be bathed every few weeks. Calm, faithful, playful, and easy-going, the Bolognese is pretty in white and pure in heart, with a big love for people!
Kuvasz
Snow white and beautiful! Have you ever heard of the Kuvasz breed? Another large dog breed, the Kuvasz is a Hungarian livestock guardian with a thick, double coat and fine undercoat.
Yes, this breed sheds, so regular weekly brushing should be a part of your routine. Otherwise, this breed’s coat is fairly easy to care for. Giving him an occasional bath will keep his solid white fur looking and feeling its best!
Maltese
This “pocket-sized pup” breed might be one of the most recognizable white dog breeds! With a long and silky coat, it’s one of the defining features of the breed that so many people love.
At only four to seven pounds and under 10 inches tall, these “toy” dogs make great lap buddies and are known for their playful and charming personalities.
They’ll need regular trips to the groomer, but you can keep their white coat gorgeous with some professional TLC, and if you have a female Maltese, consider adding a pretty bow to show off her cuteness even more!
West Highland White Terrier
AKA a Westie! Gah! This breed is adorable with a capital “A”! Did you know – they were bred to be hunters and to chase small prey out of holes and dense brush? They were also bred to be white to help them stand out while hunting.
To keep their white coats shining, this breed needs brushing every week and grooming every four to six weeks. Personality-wise, these dogs are smart and confident and make loyal and playful companions!
Coton de Tulear
Ooh, la la! What a fancy name for a dog breed! The Coton de Tulear is a small, almost entirely white dog that can have some tan coloring on their ears, face, or back.
They have cotton-like coats that should be combed several times a week to avoid tangles. They don’t shed but do lose some hair when brushed.
Coton de Tulears stand between nine and 11 inches high and weigh about eight to 13 pounds. They’re known to share a strong bond with their human owners and thrive on providing companionship, too!
Poodle
Talk about a stylish pup! The Poodle is an ever-so-popular fluffy white dog breed, known for its styled fur and puffy coat! With all of the hairdo possibilities, the Poodle is certainly a one-of-a-kind white, fluffy dog breed! It’s also a minimal shedder, meaning it’s great for those who suffer from allergies.
Poodles need to be brushed often to prevent knotting and matting in their coats. Overall, their coat makes them stylish and fun, however, they’re also smart and learn quickly! In the human world, having both brains AND beauty means Poodles possess the entire package!
German Shepherd
Strikingly beautiful! White German Shepherds, though less common than black and tan breeds, are known for their loyalty, intelligence, and high energy.
They have a straight, dense, weather-resistant double coat that needs to be brushed at least two to three times a week, more often during spring and fall shedding seasons.
A white German Shepherd’s bright white coat gives it an angelic appearance that is crisp, pure, and pristine!
Komondor
Can we say texture with a capital “T?!” Shaggy and cord-like, the Komondor possesses a signature white coat that makes it one of the most recognizable breeds. Once bred to guard livestock from predators, their coats helped them blend in with sheep.
Considered a large dog, the Komondor often weighs more than 100 pounds, and because of its unusual look, its coat requires routine care.
Warm and affectionate, this breed could be the perfect pet for families – as long as you’re up for the challenge of caring for its distinctive white coat!
Havanese
Little and mighty! The coat of a Havanese breed comes in several colors, including all white! The two rare colors that Havanese can be are white and buff and white and apricot – colors resulting from genetic mutations. Like other breeds on this list, regular brushing is needed, but it’s more manageable if you keep their coat shorter.
They’re cheerful little dogs that are affectionate, playful, and gentle with a life expectancy of 14 to 16 years. Another perk? This breed is also hypoallergenic!
Japanese Spitz
If you think this breed resembles the Samoyed, you’re right! The Japanese Spitz is known for its fluffy tail and white, double coat.
Its undercoat is thick and soft while its outer coat is long and straight. This breed has a wedge-shaped face with small, triangular ears and a long tail that curls over its back.
You should brush their coats 2-3 times a week to prevent matting and brush more often during shedding season. And by the way… what an interesting breed name for a dog!
Old English Sheepdog
Last on our list? A large dog breed that grows a long, shaggy coat with fur that covers the face and eyes and typically doesn’t shed unless brushed.
The Old English Sheepdog has a double coat that usually isn’t all white but includes shades of grey, black, or blue. The undercoat is also water resistant. Loyal, caring, and friendly this breed is fluffy on the outside and full of love on the inside!
